YAN‘s Youth Icon 2007

 

Bisma Nasim

Bisma Nasim joined PAF Academy, Risalpur in 2002. She was one of the first ever batch of 10 girls inducted for regular courses in general duty pilot and Aero Engineering. Bisma chose avionics discipline in College of Aeronautical Engineering (CAE) for her bachelors and stood 4th in the course with the GPA of 3.38.
Apart from academics, Bisma volunteered for all physical courses with her top priority among them being Rope Assault Course and Basic Air Borne Course. In April 2006, she received the honour of being the first female paratrooper in Pakistan after exercising five jumps from C-130 aircraft from a height of 1200 ft. After four and a half years of training at PAF Academy, She finally graduated and got the commission in Pakistan Air Force in March 2007.
Bisma is presently posted at PAF Base Malir, Karachi and working on R&D and maintenance of all the Flight Simulators in PAF and she aspires to live up to the slogan: ‘Determined to Defend’

 

Farhat Rasheed

In spite of her physical limitations, Farhat has very well pursued a degree in business management and her career aim is to be an entrepreneur.  She has faced many problems during her academic period due to the lack of facilities for physically challenged people in the present systems of Pakistan. Farhat, being an optimist at heart, took these challenges with bravery in order to contribute to bring social change. Thus, she determined to change the mind sets of the society towards the physically challenged people and to bring their hidden talents and divine qualities on fore front. She firmly believes in her strong determination as an omen of success for her and her fellows in their endeavors.


Urooj Mazhar


A marketing graduate, Urooj has always been involved with marketing and creativity. She also has a keen mind for the strategic side of things. She brings with her a diverse background that has seen both sides of the training world (that being trainee and trainer). Post recruitment and training at School of Leadership (SoL), she has successfully led Beyond Beauty, a residential Women Empowerment Conference. She added to her experience when she switched from SoL to SoLF. As one of the initiators of ExtraCorp, she helped ExtraCorp attain completion from concept to reality. Not only is Urooj responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of ExtraCorp, she is also intricately involved in expanding ExtraCorp through crafting new business initiatives. So far under ExtraCorp, she has launched 4 businesses: Bäckerei, Rangeela, Write Away and Pleasures. At SoL, she has also been a facilitator at YLC, a conference where 300 participants bring leadership to life and Talent Fair.

 

Imran Khan

Imran is resident of a very remote area of Balochistan named Nawa Killi but the isolation of the area could not hide the young leader inhibited in him. At a very young age of 20 years, Imran recently established a youth club; Shajar Environmental Youth Club in collaboration with the Shajar Environmental Organization, Quetta. He is currently involved in many community welfare services and is a well known social worker of his area. He plays an important role in the environmental activities lead by Environmental Protection Agency, The World Conversation Union (IUCN) and Shajar Umbrella Organization.
He has been awarded the Pride of Performance by the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2005 for his social services and also received a gold medal from Government of Pakistan in 2003 for the same worthy services. He was bestowed with the National Youth Award by Ministry of Youth Affairs, GoP on the Universal Youth Day in 2007.

 

Rafi-u-llah Khan

A young student of medical, Rafi-u-llah, definitely has a clear vision of what he wants from life and has a strong commitment towards national prosperity. He aspires to work out his commitment through different community services. In this regard, he has been participating in national peace promotion activities in the northern areas of Pakistan and is also a member of official youth delegation to India as part of Peace & Friendship campaign under CBM (Confidence Building Measures).  He is also a volunteer member of child labor protection society of Swat and has been taking evening school classes with working children there. Being a member of Pakistan Youth Parliament and Standing Committee for Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs; Rafi-u-llah took lead in proposing the National Youth Policy of Pakistan along with other members of his committee. He has been the winner of the international Duck of Edinburgh Award (bronze medal) for his contributions to the field of development of young people in Pakistan.
