Fact Sheets

Literature review on Safe Motherhood reveals the fact that the area of women’s health in Pakistan is relatively less explored and neglected area. Services are insufficient in the domain of reproductive health in rural areas and in urban slums and particularly among the poor that cannot afford private facilities.

Due to insufficient nutrition and inadequate reproductive health services most of the women lose their lives during or after pregnancy. Girls between the ages of 15 and 19 are twice as likely to die in childbirth, as compared with women in their 20s, because their bodies are not fully developed and the first births are mostly associated with more risks. Literature review provided the evidence to select three issues within the thematic area of Safe Motherhood which are Maternal Nutrition, Teen Marriages and Maternal Mortality.

Media will be playing an integral part of the campaign to raise awareness amongst the masses; and for that purpose Fact Sheets are designed to provide the basic data on the issue related to Maternal Mortality, Teenage Marriages and Maternal Nutrition which will facilitate the moderators of TV programme and Columnists to talk about the issues in their Programmes and columns. This will definitely contribute towards the cause of Safe Motherhood. Fact sheets will be released with the intervals of ten days following the curtain raiser on 13th April, 2009.
