Projects
WPF’s ultimate objective is no less than the full implementation of the Programme of Action that was adopted at the International UN Conference on Population and Development in Cairo (1994).WPF’s first goal is to ensure continued International support for the ICPD Programme of Action (PoA) through advocacy. In addition WPF wants to make a direct contribution towards the implementation of the PoA through own programmes in developing countries. These programmes are aimed at the empowerment of underserved groups in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights
Intervention philosophy
Globally having the lowest figures on sexual and reproductive health problems, the Netherlands is exemplary in its Sexual and Reproductive Health approach. WPF, being a Dutch organisation, can draw on the Dutch experience this successful approach which is based on evidence, respect, openness and rights.
The underlying assumption of this approach is that if people have a supportive environment and can make their own decisions, their intention or behaviour will hold longer than when they behave or think in an enforced or prescribed manner. The implication of this approach is that policies and programs have to approach people, including young people and women, as sexual beings and as decision-makers in their own right |
