LSBE Convocations-2007
Life Skills Based Education Programme of WPF is being implemented in different private and public schools, initially in five districts of Pakistan since 2004. LSBE is a personality development programme which empowers students with core skills, knowledge and attitudes to help them:
- Make life-long, informed decisions
- Manage their emotions
- Communicate effectively
- Practice positive, health-seeking behavior
WPF is extensively working in all four provinces through partner organizations. The details of the partners are as follow:
After the completion of LSBE course in each school, convocations have been held to acknowledge the volunteerism of Students and Teachers in their respective schools. They are also awarded certificates and shields in recognition of their hard work. In year 2007, five convocations were held. Please find below the detail of these convocations.
Quetta
The first LSBE Convocation was held in Quetta Officer Mess on 4th July 2007. This event was also held to celebrate WPF’s fruitful decade (1997-2007) of safeguarding the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of youth and women in Pakistan and 20 years of dedicated services internationally.
Matiari District, Sindh
Second LSBE Convocation was held in Mariari on September 12, 2007 at the Bhit Shah Auditorium. Dignitaries from the Government such as Mr. Usman Chacher, District Coordination Officer, District Matiari and Mr. Sajan, Education District Officer, Dr. Ghaffar Billoo, Chairman HANDS and Mr. Qadeer Baig, Country Representative, WPF in Pakistan, media partners and district government officials attended the convocation. Mr. Usman Chacher, District Coordination Officer, District Matiari was the chief guest of the event.
Mr. Chahcer in his speech requested WPF and HANDS for the continuation and expansion of the program in other schools of Matiari District. He requested for “Universal Life Skills Based Education for High School Students’ in Matiari” LSBE program.
Karachi
Third LSBE Convocation was held in Karachi in collaboration with APWA and attended by about 400 students, teachers and School Heads, NGOs from all parts of Karachi. Chief Guest, Ms. Jahan ara Hai, Vice Chairperson APWA and well know senior TV Artist and Country Representative, WPF – Pakistan distributed shields and certificates among students and teachers. Begum Jehan Ara stressed that parents should pay attention to their children as they play a vital role in molding their children’s personality vis-à-vis life skills based education. She emphasized that school and teachers should continue LSBE into their schools.
Peshawar
WPF held its Fourth LSBE Convocation in Peshawar on 20th Nov, 2007, in collaboration with the partner organization Pakistan Village Development Programme. A large number of students, teachers, principals, partner organizations and media persons attended the show.
Special Secretary Education, Mr. Muhammad Fareed was the chief guest. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of teachers and students particularly that of female teachers in the programme. Encouraging the joint efforts of WPF and PVDP, he said it is so fortunate for Ministry of Education that both of these organizations are helping the Ministry for helping our youth play their constructive role in the society. He assured his full support for the promotion of LSBE in every part of the province. Mr. Qadeer Baig, Country Representative WPF welcoming the audience, explained the need for initiating LSBE programme. He stressed that LSBE Convocation is not the end of the LSBE Programme rather it is the beginning of the advocacy phase where we need the support of schools, teachers and students to ensure LSBE inclusion in the national curriculum. The students presented role plays, poems and shared their experiences of learning LSBE. It was an evidence of LSBE impact on their lives. Teachers and Principals also addressed the audience and appreciated the positive effects of LSBE on behaviors of the students. .
Multan
LSBE Convocation Multan was held on December 18, 2008 at Multan Arts Council in collaboration with AWAZ Foundation. Dr. Prof. Karamat Ali former Vice Chancellor, B.Z. University graced the occasion as the chief guest of the programme. Mr. Qadeer Baig, Country Representative, WPF welcoming the audience, congratulated the Awaz Foundation and students/teachers on successful completi on of the LSBE programme. He stressed that LSBE Convocation is not the end of the LSBE Programme rather it is the beginning of the advocacy phase where the support of schools, teachers and students is needed to ensure LSBE inclusion in the National Curriculum. Mr. Zia, CEO Awaz Foundation appreciated the efforts of teachers and cooperation of District Government in promoting LSBE in Multan. Students from various schools presented skits to convey the learning of LSBE while teachers shared the importance and need of LSBE expansion in all high schools. The celebration was attended by more than 500 students and teachers.
