LSBE Convocation - Karachi
Keeping up with the new tradition started by WPF; celebration of 10th Anniversary and the success of Life Skill Based Education Programme (LSBE) Programs in various cities, recently held was the LSBE Convocation - Karachi. This convocation was well – attended and an educating and entertaining function held on September 3, 2007 at the Aga Khan University Auditorium which was attended by about 400 students, teachers and School Heads, NGOs and from all parts of Karachi. This was organized by World Population Pakistan in collaboration with All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA).
The function commenced with a welcome from Mr. Qadeer Baig, Country Representative, WPF in Pakistan. He briefed the forum about the WPF focus and programmes in Pakistan and reflected on the importance of the LSBE Convocation coinciding with the 10th Anniversary of WPF. The purpose of the Convocation is to recongnize hardcwork and award certificates to students, teachers and partners on completion of LSBE. LSBE has helped harness the potential of youth and direct it towards contributing to the society in a positive manner. Ms. Marzina Khan, Program Manager LSBE gave a presentation highlighting the achievements of this program. She infoemd that LSBE program has been implemented in 162 schools across Pakistan and more than 16,000 students benefited from this program in current phase while in Karachi about 2,500 students at 32 schools beneficted from the programme.
Later in the program, The Principal of ‘The Educators’ school shared her views and shared the positive changes she observed in students after the implementation of the LSBE Program. Teachers and parents also shared their experiences. Students expressed their views through skits and songs.
Chief Guest, Ms. Jahan ara Hai, Vice Chairperson APWA and well know senior TV Artist and Country Representative, WPF – Pakistan distributed shields and certificates. Certificates of Acknowledgement were awarded to all the Teachers who had successfully completed the curriculum. “Life Skills Friendly School” shields were given to all schools which were a part of the program. “Life Skills Best Teacher Award” presented to six teachers who had shown out-standing performance while delivering this program and lastly, the Chief Guest was presented a shield of acknowledgement of APWA contribution in the implementation of LSBE in Schools of Karachi by the Country Representative.
Begum Jehan Ara Hai stressed that parents should pay attention to their children as they play a vital role in molding their children’s personality vis-à-vis life skills based education. She emphasized that school and teachers should continue LSBE into their schools.
The event concluded with vote of thanks to the APWA staff and all the stakeholders who made LSBE Program a success and acknowledged their efforts in making the event a success too. |
