Institutional Strengthening (IS)

Through its Institutional Strengthening (IS) Programme, WPF – Pakistan is acting as a catalyst in strengthening and building capacities of its partners (public sector, civil society, media, youth and community) in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of youth. This is important owing to the fact that coordination of overall national youth and reproductive health policy requires public sector institutions to have capacity and authority to design and implement policies and programmes across sectors including health and education. There is also a pressing need to enlist civil society organizations and media to provide critical support to expand youth initiatives.

Goal:Improved capacity of the Government Institutions, CSOs and Media to integrate SRHR into their initiatives and programmes.

Strategies for the institutional strengthening:

  • Provide technical assistance to the partners in the form of provision of information, provision of human and technical expertise from local and international arenas.
  • Provide capacity building programs on different issues related to SRHR especially in context to the youth SRHR.

Objectives:
  •  To improve the capacity of government institutions to provide SRHR sensitive services to young people.
  •  To improve capacity of CSOs to integrate SRHR in their programmatic areas.
  •  To improve capacity of Media to ensure promotion and protection of SRH rights of young people and women.

Three pronged approach:
  •  Capacity development of organization’s human resource (staff, volunteers and board members) in SRHR programming;
  •  Developing SRHR friendly systems, policies and organizational structures; (and)
  •  Integrating SRHR into organizational programmes and develop networking with stakeholders for sustainability of their linkages and benefits.
