Hero’ explores the popular misperception of the indestructibility
of youth, whilst examining the issue of risk-taking in young
men. Drawn from the World Population Foundation’s ‘Aapas
ki batain’ (Break the Silence) series of videos on Adolescent
Reproductive Health, the film confronts many of the oppressive,
macho stereotypes present in Pakistani culture, whilst calling
attention to the importance of critical thinking and the choice
by young people of good role models and positive, health-seeking
behaviour |

Brave Girl’ examines the issue of sexual harassment – often
referred to in South Asia as Eve-teasing – from the perspective
of three young women – a high school student, a single
mother and a domestic worker – juxtaposing oppressed and
empowered reactions to this problem within Pakistan’s conservative
and patriarchal culture. Drawn from the World Population Foundation’s ‘Aapas
ki batain’ (Break the Silence) series of videos on Adolescent
Reproductive Health, the film confronts many socio-cultural myths
surrounding adolescent development, unemployment, freedom of
movement and the right to education |
