Communication and Advocacy

Communication and advocacy play a strategic role in every realm of social, political, cultural and economic aspect of life. The purpose of this programme is to integrate WPF programmes with public education and advocacy efforts. WPF believes that communication just does not happen. It must be organized, developed and built. The first step in the process is to define a Communication and Advocacy Strategy.

The communication and advocacy programme of WPF creates emphasis on planning and gets all the stakeholders involved in raising the visibility of the issues and outputs of the organization’s programmes. It helps to reach out to the community with right information through creative approaches to achieve desired outcomes.

Goal: Advocacy for sexual and reproductive health and rights with specific focus on young people and women by engaging all stakeholders.

Objectives:
The programme works specifically to:

  • raise awareness among masses on the issue of SRHR through print and electronic media
  • hold advocacy event to bring the relevant organizations and policy makers on one table and advocate for policy reforms
  • development of IEC material and dissemination to stakeholders.

Activities:

E-Newsletter: The communication department of WPF produces monthly E newsletters. The newsletter focusing information on SRHR and updates on the activities of WPF is issued every first Friday of the month and is shared with all the stakeholders almost 1500 including NGOs, CSOs, INGOs, Donors, Government, Media, Corporate sector and individuals. 

Publications: The programme is also responsible for designing and printing publications carrying the information of relevant programmes for sharing with stakeholders.

Advocacy Event: WPF has recently launched its advocacy campaign on Safe Motherhood under the slogan of “Saving the Soul Bearers” to raise awareness among masses on Safe Motherhood and draw attention of policy makers and other stakeholders for their cooperation for policy reforms. Media Linkages: the programme is also responsible for developing media linkages to ensure maximum media coverage of different programmes and activities of WPF. Another purpose is to sensitize media as well as masses through writing articles for print media and holding debates on electronic media.

Interactive Forums: Holds interactive forums periodically to discuss current issues related to the SRHR.  WPF invites experts having relevant background as the guest speakers and select group of audience from public and private sector to debate the issue and draw lessons. Later the outcome is shared with  stakeholders including media to disseminate learnings.
