Capacity Building of Civil Society Organizations on SRHR

Realizing the need and scope for the expansion of SRHR interventions in Pakistan, WPF has initiated a new program for the Capacity Building of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Media on SRHR with an aim to create an enabling environment in Pakistan for SRHR of youth and women by building the capacity of CSOs on issues of SRHR and increasing awareness on SRHR. With this initiative WPF intends to avail its past experiences with different CSOs to establish a strong and vibrant civil society so that an everlasting impact could be left on our youth.

The role and importance of CSOs is increasing in Pakistan and numbers of CSOs are in thousands but on contrary less number of CSOs are working on SRHR issues. Among the organizations working on SRHR the quality of human resource, organizational capacity and institutional strengths are the challenges faced by most of them. In order to fill this gap, WPF designed this program with a long term goal.

Goal: Improved capacity of the CSOs and Media to integrate SRHR into their initiatives and programmes.

Strategies for the capacity building:

  • Provide capacity building programs on different issues related to SRHR especially in context to the youth SRHR
  • Provide technical assistance to the partners in the form of provision of information, provision of human and technical expertise from local and international arenas

Objectives:
  •  To improve the capacity of service providing CSOs so that SRHR sensitive services could be provided to young people
  •  To improve the capacity of CSOs to integrate SRHR in their programmatic areas
  •  To improve the capacity of Media to ensure promotion and protection of SRH rights of young people and women

Steps for Capacity Building for 2009:
  •  Compilation of data-base of CSOs working on SRHR in Pakistan;
  •  Becoming a resource organization for SRHR in Pakistani context and constant flow of information sharing;
  •  Identifying the needs and demand for SRHR capacity building interventions;
  •  Developing thematic tools for capacity building; and
  •  Conducting orientation seminars for CSOs on SRHR;
